I stand on the outside looking in, watching them enjoying themselves. I pretend to be indifferent, though inside I’m burning to be called in, to be asked to join in the fun.
Suddenly a voice shouts out for me to join them. Unprepared, I smile to them but politely decline.
Why I decline, I cannot say for sure, except that perhaps I wasn’t looking so much in participating in the fun, as much as I was longing for some proof of acceptance.
